An archive to help keep my talk page cleaner.

contact max

hey pal, the only email address I have for you is @live.com, is this still the best way to contact you? I sent you an email, if your address has changed please shoot me an email at max@ytmnd.com Max 02:22, June 21, 2011 (CDT)

well put the KYM page as an article in the press page, that would be more fitting.

What press page? And if you want it to go in there, why don't you do it?
By the way, you should sign your name on talk pages. And using capitalization would be nice as well.
Plus, why did you abbreviate 'Know Your Meme' as 'KYM'? I thought you said nobody understood acronyms? --Westing1992 20:27, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

alright, I'll succumb to your demands, but the reason I didn't like the Know Your Meme page was because it wasn't particularly YTMND related, since it covers all internet. I believe theres a press page where YTMND appears in the news or magazines, this would be the most fitting place for it. However I doubt many YTMND users would care, and in fact hate it being there as a few users have created YTMND's just to post on Know Your Meme.

I remember the press page, but it wasn't on the wiki but linked to from the about page; it seems to have been removed. I can understand your concerns about users self-promoting on the site, but that's on their end. --Westing1992 12:30, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure there was a wiki page as well, which was just a mirror of the about section's press page.

How about integrating articles (stuff like http://wiki.ytmnd.com/Category:Articles_to_be_merged)? How do you go about doing that? --Lastimero 05:16, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

At what point is an article no longer a stub? --Lastimero 10:09, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if you or anyone else would be interested in this but I think it would be cool to keep track of what sites are popular during a month. Meaning a page listing each month as it passes with the sites that got X amount of views. Over 5,000 or whatever. Because you can always go back and look at older profiles like Syncan or Sitsu's but it's too bad you can't see like what were the most popular sites in Nov. 2005 and so on. I doubt you could do much about doing past months / years apart from just sites you know of putting them in the month they were made (but not all views come right away so you wouldn't really know I guess). But if we started it now at least in 2 years no one would be lamenting that they don't have it about now. - Umfuld

Kind of like Google Trends? Lacrossestar83

Excuse me,

I have noticed that you've reverted the recent edits to the "list of trolls" page. If you are unaware, Umfuld and JJJ have become prominent trolls today on YTMND and pose a somewhat serious threat level to the users' enjoyment on YTMND. With their non-stop downvoting, comment -'ing and hostile comments all over many sites, especially user-based sites (rodheh, lacrossestar83, pde10, uncircumcised, mik3m, etc...) they are hindering the enjoyment of users who have done little to nothing to originally impact their own experience (other than simply existing). They should be put back into the troll list.

As for Lickitwellhiem, I would skip out on him as he's not much of a troll, simply an erratic pissed off individual and has been improving recently.

@Jtforums You forgot gr33nscr33n.

--JohnnyLorg 18:15, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

I don't know gr33nscr33n that much and personally can't judge whether he's a troll or not, however I've heard from many that he is, so if it's a majority input go ahead and add him too. Jtforums 19:44, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Constant Spam

Do you ever talk to max? I try to remove any content that is BS as soon as I see it but think that something could be done to help stop it. These dickheads are just trying to build links and I am not sure if it is an automated process that we are dealing with here or what. Seems to me the best way to defeat these assholes is to not allow them to get any benefit from their spamming. That's why I have been trying to remove their shit ASAP. If google never discovers the links they are putting in they get no benefit and they are just wasting time. I know it's a pain in the ass but if you go killing spam pages, make sure to edit their stuff out of it before you kill it so that their domains don't show up in the deleted message like here http://wiki.ytmnd.com/index.php?title=Adult_Singles_Dating_Oskaloosa_Iowa&redirect=no . Let me know if there is anything I can do to help stop these bastards. - Shizz * Fyrestorm told me not to edit the spam pages for what ever reason :|

I've talked to max and he has no clue what to do. -- fyrestorm 06:20, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Regarding the spam, what if there was some kind of extra step required for creating a wiki account, like requiring new users to send a 50-100 word PM to an admin/mod for approval? Is that possible to implement and do you think it would help? Lacrossestar83 14:37, April 11, 2011 (CDT)

I maintain a wiki site myself, and all I did in order to curb spam was to install AntiBot, ConfirmEdit and SpamBlacklist extensions on my MediaWiki install. Haven't seen any spamming imbecile since then. The MW site also has a bunch of other plugins for that, too. Lpgunit 22:53, May 9, 2011 (CDT)
ConfirmEdit and MathCaptcha were installed around a month ago, AntiBot installed today. Max 12:02, May 10, 2011 (CDT)
What about the blacklist plugin? Lpgunit 22:16, May 10, 2011 (CDT)

Now is a good time to unprotect the List of Trolls. --VinnyWeapons 23:12, March 31, 2011 (UTC)

Now is also a good time to unprotect the List of Trolls. --VinnyWeapons 00:42, June 14, 2011 (CDT)

As far as I know the entry about me in the list of trolls was written by YTMND user Lickitwellhiem. Whether he's vinnyweapons here or not I don't know but this is a user who has sent me 100s of unanswered PMs and for the better part of a year made insulting replies to every comment I made at YTMND trying to troll me and his entry about me in that article is just a continuation of that idiocy. I think this is all that needs to be said: "Notable for making negative comments on popular sites and was once banned from commenting (ytmnd.com/sites/856702/profile/c5482478) by Max because of the drama his comments caused. But since he was a Featured User at that time and generally votes fair it's debatable if he is really a troll and not simply just unlikable." Umfuld 06:00, June 18, 2011 (EDT)

Though our argument regarding the List of Trolls went on for several hours last night, Umfuld and I have resolved it, so you don't need to reprotect the List of Trolls. --VinnyWeapons 10:08, June 21, 2011 (CDT)
