You obviously are very new to this website if you are suggesting a name change of that magnitude. "You're the man now, dog" is a ''direct quote'' from the movie Finding Forrester. No offense, but this is an awful idea. Given that you are new to YTMND, you are unaware that we are plagued with trolls. The wiki would be utterly destroyed within hours if anyone could have sysop. [[User:Mikeycomicsinc|Mikeycomicsinc]] 12:18, October 12, 2007 (CDT)

Goal of the wiki

Provide people useful information about YTMND.

Replace the forums as a place to get help and answer frequently asked questions.

A featured/frontpage article system?

Oh come on! I was a sysop for a small Newgrounds wiki (dead now) but even we were able to figure out how to make a featured article system and also it's extremely fucking easy.

1. First you make like some front page vote page where you decide what it is. To reduce stress it can be a weekly article type thing so you have plenty of time

2. Create templates for what you want the articles to look like on the front page IE: {{FArticle 9/11/07}}. It should be a simple condesed version of an article

Brianpeppers.jpg

Brian Peppers (born November 1, 1968) is a resident of Whitehouse, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio who became the subject of an Internet meme that originated in 2005, concerning the circulation of his photograph, obtained from the Ohio Electronic Sex offender Registry. The appearance of the photograph led many viewers to suggest that it was faked. Snopes investigated the case and was unable to establish that it was a fake. The Ohio Attorney General's office told them "This is an accurate photo of this offender." Snopes suggests that Peppers' unusual appearance may be due to malformation of the cranium caused by a branchial arch condition such as Apert syndrome or Crouzon syndrome. ((MORE...))

3. Post said template on the front page. edn.

God I'm turning 15 soon and even I can do all this. --CartoonDiablo 17:36, September 13, 2007 (CDT)

What the wiki isn't for

To promote:

  • YTMND Forums or other forums.

  • The soundtrack - (ditto)
  • Specific people who aren't of importance or noteworthy.

While it's okay to have information about any of the above topics, they should not be highlighted or on the front page.

If you want to make a page about yourself, create an account, and add stuff to your userpage.

What can I do to help?

  • Get any useful information off the HELP and FAQ forums and migrate it here and format it properly.
  • Start a media sightings area.
  • Write a cleaner history.
  • Write some useful articles (anything from setting up quicktime and firefox to commonly used programs for sound and image editing etc).

This will never get anywhere.

While this wiki is a great idea, it's clear we have a horrible ratio of sysops:contributors:vandals. Start waving the white flag, nigga stole our wiki. --Nintendorulez 21:14, 22 April 2006 (CDT)

Yes, I am a great user. And I will get blocked then come back because I will not let this wiki go down. A-The-thing 18:22, 23 April 2006 (CDT)

Why was I banned? I never took part in any of that Alol crap.. I was RVing articles that they vandalised. - stylesr

Why not set the Wiki so only registered users can edit. There's a load of info at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Preventing_Access --LBMixPro 18:27, 14 May 2006 (CDT)
Yeah, I fear the whole contributors to vandals ratio will be catastrofic. Xioyux 13:52, July 12, 2006 (CDT)

Typo on the front page

There should be no comma between "film" and "Finding Forrester". I know this seems anal, but it does look kind of bad to have a mistake on the first sentence of the front page. :) - Furrykef 23:47, 4 June 2006 (CDT)

Fixed. --It's Smiddle, LOL 08:22, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
Well, now you got typos in the second sentence. "It's" should be "Its", and there should be a comma after "dog". ;) - Furrykef 22:06, June 11, 2006 (CDT)

Userboxes

I like userboxes. Maybe we should have userboxes? like Wikipedia? --It's Smiddle, LOL | What is Talk Page? 10:57, June 22, 2006 (CDT)

NO! That's a Wikipedia tradition, just like NPOVGo for it! userbars look like a good idea as well. --LBMixPro<lol, talk page> 16:40, June 22, 2006 (CDT)/updated10:57, November 10, 2006 (CST)
Yeah, forgot about that... but userbars look good. --It's Smiddle, LOL | What is Talk Page? 11:59, June 26, 2006 (CDT)

Lowercase templates not working

Lowercase template references don't work on some sites, like this one: http://wiki.ytmnd.com/index.php?title=Hall_of_Fame&oldid=7263. Anyone know what the deal is? --Liface 01:38, June 24, 2006 (CDT)

Never mind, I guess I'm going to redirect all lowercase templates to a version with a capital letter. --Liface 01:45, June 24, 2006 (CDT)
Okay, this still isn't working for all new revisions, just the old ones.
It's a feature that's been activated, but I'm not liking it. I'm already renaming uppercase templates to lower. --LBMixPro<lol, talk page> 01:56, June 24, 2006 (CDT)
What feature exactly? How does one rename things? --Liface 00:19, June 25, 2006 (CDT)
Nevermind, the lowercase lettering is disabled. --LBMixPro<lol, talk page> 12:40, June 26, 2006 (CDT)

This page makes no sense

For example, "YTMND is a site created for the purpose of furthering the creativity of its users. Its inspiration, You're the man now dog, was founded in 2001 after visionary Max Goldberg saw a commercial for the 2000 film Finding Forrester. Seeing that Max couldn't organize the many spin-offs the site, he created YTMND"

Spin-offs of what? You never explained about yourethemannowdog.com so this is incomprehensible. Also, spelling and grammar are heinous. Lina 02:15, June 24, 2006 (CDT)

Spinoffs of yourethemannowdog.com. Yet another reason to convert the main page into an article about YTMND, then turn this into a real Main Page. But we need to talk about how its format is gonna be. --LBMixPro<lol, talk page> 12:36, June 26, 2006 (CDT)

Citing Sources

I fear the YTMND wiki might be total chaos without the requirement to site YTMND sources (not news, but at least links to ytmnds). Seeing as YTMND users have been known to vandalize the actually wikipedia, this will be admin hell unless there are specific rules set up for editing, etc. Xioyux 13:49, July 12, 2006 (CDT)

I don't know if people should be required to cite sources, but I've already noticed a lot of factual errors based on pure speculation or prejudice.--momthinksimcool 18:31, May 11, 2007 (CDT)

PTKFGS: Namespace?

Just a random thought: should there be a PTKFGS: and YESYES: namespace? I'm sure somebody could photoshop the logos. --Rdoger6424 20:28, August 5, 2006 (CDT)

lol, that would be funny... scottendo made a PTKFGS logo (see PTKFGS article) somebody could photoshop... but I don't think a YESYES namespace would be needed, because most users hate YESYES. It's Smiddle, LOL | What is Talk Page? 09:02, August 6, 2006 (CDT)
Edit: The dudes at uncyclopedia have edited the skins to have different logos each namespace [1] It's Smiddle, LOL | What is Talk Page? 09:12, August 6, 2006 (CDT)
I've been trying to get the skins to work, but it's not. Instead of namespaces, how about customized monobook.css? --LBMixPro<lol, talk page> 14:24, August 6, 2006 (CDT)
Yes maybe, but instead of a whole PTKFGS: namespace, we could just have articles at PTKFGS/article. But Uncyclopedia wins at creating namespaces, I mean, they create namespaces like Undictionary, and it has a different logo... and I'll test the title switching template to get rid of Template:Lowercase and Template:Underscore. --It's Smiddle, LOL | What is Talk Page? 10:07, August 29, 2006 (CDT)
I can Photoshop something if it's needed. --Scottendo

I have a question, how do you make your own Wikipedia?

This might be much easier for you to understand, since you say Wikipedia and not wiki I can see you're not very literate about web things to make your own through a web host, FTP, MySQL and mediawiki. --Sharlatan 19:25, February 26, 2007 (CST)

Well,

Well, I am new here, and would like to get an introduction to the "real place" so to start, I went here to "get a feel for it". What is the purpose of YTMND? What can one do with YTMND?

Also, I noticed the abbreviation was for "You're the man now, dog". I see that as 1) sexism, and 2) discriminatory/segregatory. It seems that is putting trans people and womyn under/inferior to men. It is a bug in my side. I don't mean to be annoying or an asshole, but that is a form of hate speech. I would like the title changed to gender-neutral. I highly recommend YTOND or You're the one now dog. The gender specifications are one of the most sexist, classist things that we need to completely rid of in our vocabulary. The gender-specific is like "upper class/middle class/lower class" in that it is only a form of inequality and a means of saying what a womon/man can and cannot do, and stereotyping these silly sayings. Is it really ethical to not include womyn and putting men as superior to womyn by putting "man" in the title when meaning "person"?

Before you ask if the name Jonas is female, I will tell you it is a Hebrew homograph meaning dove or destroyer. It is male.

I am not some troll or trying to disrupt anything. I am known around different communities as Ionas68224, from my IP address 68.224.imnott.elling, and "Ionas" because in Hebrew, the letter Yodh begins the name Jonas and the letter Y, I, or J can be used for the sound Y as in Yesterday in three forms (Yodh, Iota, Jot).
