I'm mushadv, better known elsewhere as "mushroom," or alternatively, "mushroomadvance." Note the lowercase.
I rate sites honestly, and I try as hard as possible to give constructive criticism.
I'm a fan of "traditional" YTMNDs, as outlined here. 50 year-long gifs usually receive a one from me, unless it's really, really funny. YTMND is supposed to have a kind of immediacy, while still being funny; meaning, you should get the point of the site within five seconds of it loading. Basically, don't upload stuff that would work better as a standalone video or mp3.
I downvote stolen things. No questions asked. It doesn't matter that you cited your source, or even if the guy who made it allowed you to use it; you still didn't create it. To elaborate, I'm talking about things like taking comic strips and adding completely unrelated music, or taking a long sound clip that everyone's heard and making it the focus of the YTMND. I'm not, however, talking about taking really short clips from some form of mass media, and making it work with accompanying picture and text. Again, immediacy and the "singular focus" is key. That is what YTMND is all about.
As for "artsy" things, like the stuff ROY4L is creating...I don't really have much of a position on that. It usually comes off as really pretentious, though. I wouldn't recommend it, personally.
Don't be an asshole. If someone downvotes your site and gives good reason, then don't try to avenge it and downvote all of his/her sites. It's a really dick thing to do.

Adverb - gets a really bad rap for being one of the harshest critics on YTMND. His sites aren't half-bad.
Barclay - makes some really dumb, yet hilarious sites.
Daltonofzeal2 - probably invented the "loud noise satire" genre of YTMND.
waziot - for pulling the whole Family Guy stunt.
Gamekid - Makes badass videogame music mashups.
