Well the Top Rated / Month is an ongoing list. It doesn't reset at the end of the month. It always displays the Top Rated sites over the past 30 no matter the date. So when December ends you might have a site high up on there that is only 2 days old yet after 30 days from its creation date its score might be much lower and not really a factor in top rated / month.

So maybe just go with notable sites month to month. Either a lot of views, spawned a lot of worthwhile spin offs or has a high rating after a week or is notable for some other reason. Kind of like Hall of Fames in sports - there aren't set guidelines for who gets in. As far as what to do if we do it, I really don't know. Hopefully someone who knows what they are doing will see this and help. I'll start marking notable sites now so if it ever gets done we can do December. So no rush. --[[User:Umfuld|Umfuld]] December 21, 2010

Your suggestion for a front-page archive or whatever is a good idea, but I'm not entirely sure how it would work. It seems like a subject more suited to a blog than a wiki, actually. I'm also not sure we should use views if we were to do it; many sites from many months or even years prior frequently top the list. But if you have any ideas for improvement on this plan, I'd be welcome to them. --Westing1992 02:31, December 21, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe you're right and it wouldn't be practical as a wiki page. But I think only keep track of sites made that month - rather than include older sites that are still getting a lot of views. Maybe just the Top Ten viewed each month or like I said, just a set amount of views - 2K or 5k or 10k - whatever. (Top Viewed doesn't show weekly or monthly totals anymore, so people would just have to keep track as the weeks pass). And I think views would be better than rating as ratings tend to fluctuate. This summer sites were scoring incredibly high as the active users were mostly up voters as compared to now where it's mostly just down vote trolls acting with no moderation - it's not really comparable. I'll help if anyone else is interested but the reason I mentioned it to you is I don't really know what I'm doing on Wiki or web sites in general. Edit: I guess you could go by Top Rated per month rather than views. I was thinking if you set a rating limit it wouldn't work but no need. --Umfuld December 21, 2010

Yeah, top rated would be the best way to go. However, I'm unsure of how to set something like this up, whether to make a page of a series of pages, or to make subpages under your userpage (User:Umfuld/topsitesjan11 or something). I'm also unsure how to record these popular sites; just wait until the last day of the month and record the Top Rated YTMNDs This Month? Sorry if I seem like a pessimist, I don't know that much about websites either; I pretty much just taught myself how to use this wiki. If we're going to do this, we'd better come up with a plan soon, as the end of the month is just over a week away. Of course, if we miss that deadline, we'll have plenty of time to do the first month of the new year. --Westing1992 17:25, December 21, 2010 (UTC)
