After E3 2006, the front page was for a short time loaded with sites making a mocery of Sony's embarrassing press conference and in particular the PlayStation 3 presentation. Most of these sites focussed on making jokes at the expense of Sony Executive Kaz Hirai's over-enthusiasm, or the ridiculously silly Genji 2 briefing.
When the PlayStation 3 was unveiled at E3 2005, many YTMND's were featured parodying the "boomerang" controller, but after E3 2006, these sites became obsolete.
The fad can be broken down into various sub-fads:
- Giant Enemy Crab (or Massive Damage); A Sony producer was giving out details regarding their latest action game, Genji: Days of the Blade (then called Genji 2). He explained that the entire game was based on real events in Japanese history, but the level he played afterwards suggested that, instead, he meant events based on Japanese mythology. Among those features appearing less than historical were real time weapon changing, magical pillar weapons, and the notorious Giant Enemy Crab.
- Ridge Racer; During another segment of the conference, Kaz was discussing the game Ridge Racer for the PSP and went haywire, saying "It's Ridge Racer. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAACEERR!".
- 599 US Dollars; The price tag of the PlayStation 3 as announced by Kaz Hirai himself.
This fad includes, most commonly, these portions of his presentation:
- "Genji 2 is an action game which is based on Japanese history. Er... being based on history, the um... stages of the game will also be based on famous battles which took -- actually took place in ancient Japan."
- "So here's this Giant Enemy Crab, and you attack its weak point for massive damage."
- "I'll flip it on its back."
- "The team at Game Republic has come back to us with a bunch of great new features for this game. Including such features as real-time weapon change and real-time character change."
- "Which can only be made possible with the power of the PlayStation 3."
