This page is a wishlist of things that would be nice to have on this wiki. There are a few things that aren't immediately needed, but it might be nice to have, and others depend on the security of the site. Max has got to do most of this.
Stuff that's struck out has been completed (to the best of our knowledge, MediaWiki is weird like that). Stuff in bold should be done shortly if not sooner.

A featured/frontpage article system
Well I ranted on about this on the Main Talk Page but it was so fucking easy I wanted to give a tutorial on it for the sysops.
1. First you make like some front page vote page where you decide what it is. To reduce stress it can be a weekly article type thing so you have plenty of time
2. Create templates for what you want the articles to look like on the front page IE: {{FArticle 9/11/07}}. It should be a simple condesed version of an article
Brian Peppers (born November 1, 1968) is a resident of Whitehouse, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio who became the subject of an Internet meme that originated in 2005, concerning the circulation of his photograph, obtained from the Ohio Electronic Sex offender Registry. The appearance of the photograph led many viewers to suggest that it was faked. Snopes investigated the case and was unable to establish that it was a fake. The Ohio Attorney General's office told them "This is an accurate photo of this offender." Snopes suggests that Peppers' unusual appearance may be due to malformation of the cranium caused by a branchial arch condition such as Apert syndrome or Crouzon syndrome. ((MORE...))
3. Post said template on the front page. edn.
God I'm turning 15 soon and even I can do all this. --CartoonDiablo 17:36, September 13, 2007 (CDT)
Content
- Expand the main namespace to include articles for all the major fads and YTMND sites without forking them from the fads list. YTMND is not Wikipedia after all and "This comes from Wikipedia/Fadwiki" messages look ghey.
- Try to explain why a fad is funny to newcomers. Some (lots) of people look at these YTMND and either don't get the joke, or don't know why they're funny.
Section devoted to Dead Fads, or fads that are dying and on their way out.Create an infobox template for assets (audio and image files).-
Add a section for moderator favorites. The amount of mod favorite sites are unknown as I see only 5 every few minutes. Would be really helpful if there was a list.
- I'm not sure if this is the right section for this but could you possibly link wiki profiles on our front page profiles?
Aesthetic
- Front page layout that resembles the original Wikipedia online format. With front page sections that cycle thru 4 windows covering various content and including imagery, move YTMND into an editable article and replace the Main Page with Main Page or similar. (?)
Technical (requires db access)
Changes to LocalSettings.php
Quick and easy
Personal user styles (I loves me some popups). Set $wgAllowUserJs and $wgAllowUserCss to true.
Get xXWaspXx a Battery Meter.
Slightly longer (instructions on linked page)
- Link the main logo to (a protected) Image:Wiki.png by changing $wgLogo to http://www.ytmnd.com/wiki/images/b/bc/Wiki.png
- Only allow sysops to upload images. There's really no reason to use internal uploading most of the time... (disputed)
- Set YTMND:Admin's Noticeboard to be read only by sysops, using page restrictions (or creating a new namespace that can only be read by sysops)
- Enable interwiki links to Wikipedia (change the www. to en.), Wikia (links to it are broken (replace index.php to wiki), fadwiki (fw:Main Page), Encyclopedia Dramatica (ed:Main Page) and Uncyclopedia (un:Main Page) to make the articles here more useful. There's no need to have our own personal spin on everything that might be covered elsewhere (e.g. Macarron Chacarron, linking Conan O'Brien, etc). It's time to stop raping the {{w}}, {{From Wikipedia}} and {{From Fadwiki}} templates. Also, it's possible to create a ytmnd inter(wiki?) link using the same principles. like [[y:vadercoaster|Noooolercoaster]] would produce Noooolercoaster...
- Special page to work with the interwiki table allows admins to easy create interwiki links. –It's Smiddle, LOL · What is Talk Page? · KHAAANTRIBUTIONS!
- Possibly create a new skin not based on monobook (see MediaWiki talk:Monobook.css), probably based on the new layout. Create a [something].css skin, and/or at least enable it in LocalSettings.php so that admins can edit it.
Extensions (help)
- Enable CheckUser for sysops and such (code's at Sourceforge)
- It's more difficult that what it states there. I'll provide instructions somwhere later on.
- Rename users (it should work on 1.6, even if it doesn't say so... Official MediaWiki sites is running 1.8 alpha, and has it installed.
- Get a list of protected pages
- Parser functions to add #switch, #expr, and others to make better templates (maybe in the possible category? this is a little bit more important though).
- String Functions (an addon to Parser Functions)
- MenuTabs, just like the main YTMND site
- Integration with vBulletin for stats and users.
Possibly added later, if needed
- Only allow current users to add new users or only allow Sysops to add new users (Just like Gmail,
Facebook, or a bunch of those other sites, you can only join if you're invited, thus limiting vandal abilities.) - Install Cite.php to easily create footnotes.
- Possibly figure out a way to link accounts on the YTMND main site with wiki accounts if it's not a giant pain in the ass (but im sure it will be)
-or-
- Create a section in an admin area where user ips/emails get posted when they are doing extreme amounts of vandalism so I can delete them from the main site/forums as well.
- That's what checkuser (see above) is all about. Install that and give "checkuser" to all the admins, then for whoever vandalises the wiki, we'll look them up and send their IP to you to do as you please. --LBMixPro<lol, talk page>
- Enabling inputboxes
- Changing the image hosting sources to http://content.ytmnd.com/wiki/$1 [1]
Vandalism/Spam Prevention
We seriously need to do something to prevent all the mass vandalism/spam pages that have been happening recently. --Westing1992 23:10, March 13, 2011 (UTC)
