The Holy crap fad was first created by Cdawg82191 on April 26, 2006. Upon its creation the site featured a blank screen with a period portrayed as a meteor. The "meteor" effect is only possible on YTMND due to the site's use of 3-D text.
The meteor site initially received high ratings. After users began commenting on the site, a background image was added. It then went through several edits.
YTMNDs of this type often have a variety of different texts, sometimes aligned with the image. The initial song he used was "Requiem for a Tower", but due to massive complaints about the overuse of the "Fire Spirit" theme, he changed the song to Yasunori Mitsuda's "Lavos' Theme" from the video game Chrono Trigger mostly due to gamekid's suggestion.
Ironically, the site was originally intended as a joke expected to get no more than a 2 star rating.
