YTMND vs. Sega

Worthy Spinoffs:

Sega Corporation is a company that produces video games. They created, among other characters parodied in YTMND sites, Sonic the Hedgehog, the object of parody in the popular Sonic says... fad.

On January 11, 2007, Max received a legal action letter from Sega over the "Sonic Gives Advice on Rape" YTMND. Sega claimed that people would think YTMND was the source of Sonic, and that Sonic was a pervert, apparently not aware of the concept of parody. They threatened Max with legal action if they did not remove the ytmnd, turn over any profits made by the site, and give total control of YTMND to Sega in seven days. In response, Max encouraged YTMNDers to "feel free to let Sega know how much you all appreciate them shitting on their target audience". This resulted in a flurry of anti-Sega sites as well as a resurgence of the "Sonic gives advice" fad.

Since there were no known updates from either YTMND or Sega in the seven days mentioned in the letter, it can be assumed that Sega decided to drop the charges or realized they didn't have a case to begin with. In any case, Sega has now gained the image of a bunch of greedy douchebags.
