Heath Ledger was an Australian actor best known for his roles in movies such as "Monster's Ball", "A Knight's Tale", and "Brokeback Mountain". On January 22, 2008, he was found dead in his New York City apartment. Almost immediately upon hearing the news break, YTMNDers set out to make sites either honoring the late actor or lampooning his death.

Initial Site Content

Sites featured things as diverse as The Joker (the character Ledger recently finished filming for in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight), Ambien sleeping pills (which Ledger is said to have overdosed on, accidentally or not), or even the rumor (which turned out to be false) that Ledger was found in actress Mary-Kate Olsen's apartment. Ledger sites accumulated views quickly, and on January 23, 2008, the day after Ledger's death, the Top Viewed Sites of the day were dominated by Ledger sites.

YTMND Tribute

On the day of Ledger's death, YTMND's background tile was changed to feature an image of Ledger and co-star Jake Gyllenhaal from the film Brokeback Mountain, becoming the fourteenth instance in YTMND history where Max has altered the front page background.
