YTMND uses a system that allows users to make their own sub-domains off of the ytmnd.com domain. The DNS is set up in a way that anything that doesn't have an implicit entry resolves to the YTMND webserver which then parses the request into an actual site. YTMND itself knows nothing of the YTMND.com DNS table, so when a new sub-domain is actually created, the wildcard no longer resolves to the YTMND web server. YTMND itself has no way to know when new sub-domains will be used beyond a "reserved domain name" list, which is updated infrequently due to apathy.

All of the below listed sites take advantage of the above mentioned cause with the exception of "< SITE WAS DELETED >" which was due to a failed database transaction and lazy programming. These sites have not been deleted purely due to laziness.

When attempting to view this site, you will only find an error page. This is most likely due to the excessively long domain. It should be noted that the site was made in 2005 and domains now have a character limit to fix this. The site cannot be viewed by any of the methods listed below, except for the Random YTMND Generator. Curiously, the site still has 101 total views and 32 votes. This must lead one to believe it was somehow possible to view the site at one point in 2005. Just for curiosity's sake, here is the complete title (and domain) of the YTMND:

There are YTMNDs that cannot be viewed at all, or can't be viewed that easily, due to Max replacing them with one of his own ideas or a user using the same domain as one of these ideas. They use the same domain issue as YTMND sites.

Cause

The Unviewable YTMND! - Site profile

This is actually viewable. By putting "WWW." before it (http://www.admin.ytmnd.com/), it can be viewed. Otherwise, users will be taken to Max's admin menu, which normal users can't do anything in.

THE BEST YTMND SITE EVER CREATED! - Site profile

Unless doing an action similar to http://admin.ytmnd.com, (http://www.www.ytmnd.com), this YTMND can't be viewed.

lol - Site Profile

It was to be known that it cannot be viewed at all. It would instead redirect to the YTMND Mosaic.

Thanks, Wikipedia. - Site Profile

This one can't be viewed at all either. It will redirect to YTMND Wiki.

This existed before the YTMND wiki was created.

YTMNDCNW: Random Wasn't Taken - Site Profile

This is also unviewable, no known way to get into it, just like the other two above. It will simply take you to a random site.

COMPLETELY BLANK YTMND (NO # ! OR YTMND LOGO) - Site Profile

A completely blank YTMND where there cannot be votes or views. This YTMND points to advertisment site (Look into main site source), where only blank space is visible.

LOL - Site Profile

This site simply points to the YTMND forums.

Click here to go to the API. - Site Profile

The moment Max made api.ytmnd.com, Connor swiftly abused the YTMND domain system and created a site with the same domain, therefore making it unviewable.

New site same problem (November 22, 2010)

The Site with 2 profiles Profile

Recently discovered was a site that has presently been stuck on least voted sites, when trying to view it you are taken to another site that is seemingly the right link but in actuality is has a different profile.

RaNdOm.ytmnd.com Profile

A relatively new site which as of now seems to be unviewable other then ironically coming across it using random.

38 sites with 2 profiles

When typogra/directory deleted all of his sites, prairiedogeric10 grabbed a bunch of domains previously owned by typogra/directory. He resurrected some of the deleted sites and matched them with their original domain. He used other "epic" domains for his own personal use. On June 3, 2010 it was discovered that max apparently restored all of the typogra/directory sites with their original domains, which caused the sites in prairiedogeric10's site list containing these domains to re-direct to their original forms. This left prairiedogeric10 with 38 unviewable sites.

Formerly Unviewable

irc is for the gays. - Site Profile

Before YTMND IRC moved to EFnet, going to this site would have lead to an "Unable to connect" error.

To View a YTMND

Kayne cleverly discovered how to view a YTMND, but unfortunately not how to vote on it. The key to viewing it is putting a space before the domain name, http:// ads.ytmnd.com which translates into http://%20ads.ytmnd.com. This can only be done on Ads.ytmnd.com, and Content.ytmnd.com. It is discovered that doing the %20 glitch only works in Internet Explorer, but not Firefox. It has also been comfirmed that some users using Safari and Netscape learned that they can vote using those browsers.

And another way to view AND vote some of these YTMNDs has been leaked somewhere... it can view all except the domainless one, the one with the really long domain, and the random.ytmnd.com. Find out for yourself. It USED to be a secret until someone leaked it out.

There is another way to view, but not vote on any of the sites. It involves using the random site generator. Just put the Site profile number in the three number places at the end of the url. The sites would look like the following:

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?347617&347617&347617

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?89528&89528&89528

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?181813&181813&181813

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?493893&493893&493893

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?653705&653705&653705

http://random.ytmnd.com/random.html?30425&30425&30425
