Face melter sites involved an image of a person appearing to be screaming accompanied by the ending portion of the song "Highlander" by Lost Horizon. The sounds makes the person look like he is screaming the ending of the song. The first face melter site was made in March 2006 and featured Cosmo Kramer of Seinfeld, but the fad never really broke loose until July. The fad then remained silent until late September, when another rush of sites were created.

The ending clip has also been used for various other sites including one dew army site.

The fad is also known as the "WOAAAAAHHH!!" fad, such as in the "Spiderman: whoooooooaaaAAAAAAAHHHH!" YTMND.

NARV Status

Similar to many other fads that involve the same song placed to different images, the fad is considered to be of NARV status, though to a lesser extent as other notorious fads like Best Day Ever and Myspace Suicide.

The "face melter" has become true NARV fodder in recent months, as any image found on the internet of a celebrity with their mouth open can be put to the music and be considered a face melter.

Music

The song "Highlander" has been included on Volume 14 of the YTMND Soundtrack.
