The Holy crap fad was first created by Cdawg82191 on April 26, 2006. Upon its creation the site featured a blank screen with only a period on it. The way the text zoomed out to a vanishing point, the period took on the illusion of a meteor with a trail behind it. This effect is only possible on YTMND due to the site's use of 3-D text.
The meteor site initially received high ratings. After users began commenting on the site, a background image of a city was added. It then went through several edits. The initial song used was "Requiem for a Tower", but due to massive complaints about the overuse of the "Fire Spirit" theme, he changed the song to Yasunori Mitsuda's "Lavos' Theme" from the video game Chrono Trigger mostly due to gamekid's suggestion. Ironically, the site was originally intended as a joke expected to get no more than a 2 star rating.
YTMNDs of this type often have a variety of different texts, sometimes aligned with the image. Though many incorporate the zooming text into their joke, some ignore the zoom and simply use the text as ASCII representations.
