The When Spongebob Meets fad was popular during the final 2 months of 2004. The fad was based on a scene from The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. In the scene, Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star both meet David Hasselhoff in a live-action/animated scene along with the following dialogue:
Spongebob: Who are you?
David: I'm David Hasselhoff.
The fad originally started as a forced fad, but others did join in. Fad sites have only 2 things modified. First, David Hasselhoff's face is replaced by another character. Second, the sound clip is also modified with David Hasselhoff replaced with the character's name. A good amount of sites though were deleted during the downtime in 2005 and as a result, was forgotten when YTMND relaunched in 2005.
