The PlayStation Portable (abbreviated as PSP) is a handheld game console developed by Sony and released in North America in early 2005. Early builds of the PSP were notorious for having their UMDs (Universal Media Discs) fall out when jerked the wrong direction. This defect led to a site, and later fad, on YTMND.

On April 1st, 2005, user boykicksgirl created the site Sony PSP. This site featured a .gif of a person playing Ridge Racer on the PSP and the UMD disc popping out as they turned the PSP. The YTMND's zooming text read "It's not a defect! It's a feature!", and it was accompanied by a loop of Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out", which was used in the PSP commercials in the United States.

Spinoffs of this fad commonly portray the the UMD disc being shot into other scenes and affecting it in some manner.

PTKFGS

There are 2 versions of the PTKFGS equivalent. One version is called "Yes It Is A Defect!", using the song "The Fallen" by Franz Ferdinand. The other version of the fad featured instead the Nintendo DS system shooting out its game cartridge, with the song "Do You Want To", also by Franz Ferdinand.
