The Coolest Kid fad started with the site “The Coolest Kid You Knew In 1991.” The site’s image was taken from a 1991 issue of Nintendo Power, showing a boy playing his NES (with, of course, his latest edition of Nintendo Power). Due to the stereotypical fads of the decade, the fad exploded quickly with users editing the picture to portray the boy in different time periods, all with period-appropriate music.
