Worthy Spinoffs:

The Super Mario World Ending theme, usually sped up 150%, is often used as the background music for sites with "lol" (or variations of lol) as part of the image. Sites in which the theme is used typically depict wacky situations or showcase strange information. The theme was included on Volume 4 of the YTMND Soundtrack.

The original tune (simply titled "Ending") was created by Koji Kondo. He is responsible for many other video game compositions including the themes for The Legend of Zelda and StarFox.

Criticism and NARV Status

The overuse of the music has led to negative attention. This can be observed in YTMNDs with screenshots of news items or webpages edited with Paintbrush adding "lol", "pwned", etc. in blurry red letters. The trend began with the Cerro Lolol site.
