The obey fad began on March 30, 2006 with {{ytmnd|obeynixon|OBEY Nixon}} by the userSpotz. Then that weekend, multiple OBEY YTMNDS were forced into the top 15 by an outsider ytmnd forum called The Price is LOL and the fad was born.  It was quickly met with negative attention and anti-Obey sites were created.  The music always used in the fad was "ShinRa Company" from the video game "Final Fantasy VII". The fad quickly died out and hasn't been used since.

Worthy Spinoffs:

The OBEY ... fad began with Spotz YTMND OBEY nixon. The original OBEY YTMND consisted of a tiled image of a cel-shaded Richard Nixon superimposed upon a video monitor with an adolescent staring into the monitor. It is accompanied by a short sound clip from Marilyn Manson's Rock is Dead, specifically the quote "God is in the TV."

YTMND Characteristics

The only similarity between most of the OBEY YTMNDs is that they usually have a well-known celebrity or character demanding something out of you (typically a five-star vote). Usually the character in question is photoshopped to appear more menacing or frightening (in order to force you to obey). There is hardly any similarity between audio tracks featured.

Forced Fad Status

Later on that weekend, the YTMND was featured on the infamous The Price is LOL forums, and the YTMND was quickly transformed into a forced fad. This sudden explosion of popularity saw the creation of many spinoffs, including many YTMND heavy-hitters including Jean-Luc Picard, Donald Rumsfeld and Sean Connery. Fortunately, like most forced-fads, it quickly died out, and quality spinoffs of this fad have not been seen in many months.
