to a YTMND that showed a kitten being burned. Spotz five starred it because it featured Doom music. As a result, moheevi made the original NEDM site and continued making NEDM sites as a homage that "not even Doom music" justifies animal cruelty. Several users then made subsequent YTMNDs, including users stratos-the-bratos and awesomebob. The first explanation of the fad was given by Spotz in a forum post, which was then put into a site created by the user pork4eva. A more detailed explanation by user krytycal then followed that explained that NEDM fad despised burning cats.

The original YTMND (NEDM) contains an image of a firefighter carrying a cat from a burned house, with the firefighter reassuring the cat it wasn't doom music. He then asked if the cat wanted Chapstick. The Chapstick remark spread into a running gag within the fad. The music played is Coburn's "We Interrupt This Programme (Jean Claude Ades remix).
