It needs to be cleaned up. Please organize or reword it so it can be held at a higher standard of quality.

A downvoter is someone who uses a YTMND account mostly to downgrade the rankings of many sites by giving them the lowest possible score. This is known at YTMND as downvoting. Once a site has been downvoted, its overall average rating suffers, making it difficult to restore and less likely to draw attention to potential viewers. What sets a downvoter apart from a normal user is how a downvoter almost always rates each site with

, which is the lowest vote one can get, and comprises 50% of all votes made on YTMND, (the other half being 5 stars). The one star rating is given despite the quality of the site.

Downvoters often perform their actions by going to the profile of a targeted user and downvoting all their sites. This was accomplished without viewing the sites themselves. Max has taken measures to prevent or discourage downvoters by deleting their accounts. At one time, Max deleted 2,211 downvoter accounts, reversing over 250,000 votes. A feature was later implemented that required users to view a YTMND before being allowed to vote on it. Still, many users such as Samoht make it their goal to downvote more sites than anyone else on YTMND. There is a distinction to be made between extremely picky voters and a true downvoter who does not choose to sit through the sites they vote on. [1] Some of the more famous downvoters (such as Adverb, inkdrinker, and Tehpwner2) remain on the user list and are active in their downvoting.

There are many different forms of downvoters

Fad Haters: Any users that will downvote any site that mentions a specific fad Ex: The Cosby Fad had quite a few fad haters

User Haters: Any users that will go out of their way to downvote a specific user due to their hatred towards that user, their jealousy towards that user, or that user gave them a low vote on one of their sites.

Glory Hogs: A user that has a site that makes it to the up and comming section that will downvote the other sites in up and comming to keep theirs in that section.

"NARV Countermeasures": These users will attempt to justify their downvotes by saying they are countering NARV votes which in reality is a wasted effort and most likely just wanted to downvote the site.

Grammar Nazi's: These users will downvote on the slightest indication of a spelling or grammatical error.

Shock Haters: These users will downvote shock sites, and sites featuring animal cruelty

Famousers: Gimmick accounts intentionally created to be hated by all YTMND, attempting to one give 1 star to more sites than any oher user and hopefully end up the 'star' of several YTMNDs reacting to their actions. ie. Punisher

But not to be confused with a downvoter is the more common form of voter the critic. All because you get a 1 from some one does not mean they are a downvoter, it simply means that they felt your site was crap. And you should by no means go and 1 their sites because they didn't like yours.

When dealing with low votes you should by no means at all PM the user that gave you a low vote as it will result in pointless fighting amongst you two and most users have their minds set on the vote they choose regardless of what BS excuse you come up with.

The opposite of a downvoter is an upvoter.
