During the weekend of February 11th, 2006, Dick Cheney made headlines in the news when there was a mishap during a hunting trip.  While shooting quailes, Cheney accidentally shot his friend Harry Whittington, an attorney from Texas.  He was rushed to a hospital where he recovered from his wounds.

Once the news broke out, sites quickly spawned on ytmnd alerting others on the news.    However, it wasn't until a site later that day by the user vinwiesel called "Cheney's got a gun" that the fad took off. The site showed animation of Dick Cheney shooting Wittington in a fake video game called "Dick Hunt", a parody of "Duck Hunt". The song that accompanied it was "Janie's Got a Gun" by Aerosmith. In the song, Steven Tyler's voice makes the name "Janie" sound like "Cheney", which in a way makes the purpose of the music similar to the interpretation-based YTMNDs.  The site stayed on the top 15 for days and racked up over 400,000 views.  The original site was so popular, it was included in the fad conglomerate " YTMND sings in perfect harmony".

After that site, the fad sites started to come.  Most of them were parodies of the video games "Duck Hunt" and "Doom".  Some sites involved the use of the "[[indestructible]]" fad.  Others used the Aerosmith song as well as a parody song that popped up a week later.  The fad slowly died after the first few weeks.

He was parodized since July 2004, but not regularily enough to be mentioned as a fad, so the fad officially started in February 2006.

The song "Janie's Got a Gun" was included in Volume 10 of the [[YTMND Soundtrack]].
