Worthy Spinoffs:

The Spanish Inquisition is an earlier ytmnd fad, which involves the characters from the Spanish Inquisition skit of Monty Python's Flying Circus (Skit found on youtube here). The first Spanish Inquisition ytmnd was created on May 9, 2004 by SailorAmaya, but it is not likely that the fad was spawned until May 2005, when LocutusofBorg created Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!. The fad was very prominent in 2005, appearing in such fad compilations as Homer Tells It Like It Is and YTMND Is Ungodly. Most Spanish Inquisition sites from 2005 are difficult to find, as they involve the characters popping up at the end of a ytmnd. The fad soon became synonymous with unexpected endings; An example is in the Link finds fad.

Other incarnations of the fad involved other scenes from the skit or extended versions of the original, such as Noboby expects the Spanish Inquisition! (Refresh) and The Spanish Inquisition!. An example of the Spanish Inquisition doing something that nobody would expect can be found in a ytmnd made in July 2005, which showcased user Jerkass deleting the newly-created Wikipedia Article on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In its place, he wrote: "WWW.YTMND.COM DUMBLEDORE IS DEAD SO IS YOUR SOCIAL LIFE!!!! SIGNED. THE SPANISH INQUISITION -Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition!" At the end, the Monty Python characters popped up and delivered their trademark line.

As is the norm with ytmnd, the fad got merged with other fads, in such ytmnds as NOOOOOOOOOOObody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!, Sonic with Inquisition advice, and lol, spanish inquisition. The fad was still somewhat kicking in early 2006, when a curious old Batman comic was discovered.

Alternate Universes

In March of 2006, the fad received a PTKFGS incarnation, found here.

Today

Spanish Inquisition sites are rare today, with its golden age having been in mid to late 2005. Despite being one of ytmnd's most popular fads in its heyday, it rarely appears in fad compilations, and was notably absent from such major ones as Color ME YTMND and We Didn't Start This Website!.

However, it did receive a tribute in October, 2006, when user ivannio created The rise and fall of NEDM!
