The stares into your soul fad, is generalized by a magnified picture of person or object (usually with a dispirited face) and Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" playing.
This fad was started by dazedconfused on January 13, 2006, by depicting a magnified picture of Conan O'Brien, host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and the song, 'Moonlight Sonata' by Beethoven. However, when searching for "stares into your soul", nermy2k should be credited as creating the first "stares into your soul" YTMND, with lemon stares into your soul. Created on July 9, 2005, it was conceived close to 4½ months before the "Conan... stares into your soul" YTMND.
The "lemon stares into your soul" YTMND depicts an enlarged lemon with a 'shocked' expression on his face, and the theme song for the movie "Requiem for a Dream" playing. "Conan... stares into your soul" is similar as it shows Conan with an almost identical expression, but with the Moonlight Sonata song playing.
When the "Conan... stares into your soul" YTMND was created, it quickly rose to the Top 15, and thus the origin of the 'stares into your soul' fad was created.
A sub-fad started when dazedconfused created Man watches Conan stare into his Soul, three days later. This YTMND depicts a man sitting in a chair, facing Conan, and "watching" as Conan stares into his soul. Many other YTMND's were created emulating this sub-fad with other objects, people or groups of people watching as Conan stares into their souls with the same Beethoven song playing.
